Fire
Department
For
the past two years, officials of the American Township have been
in negotiations with the Elida Fire Company in an effort to find
common ground. However, it appears that an agreement containing
meaningful Township representation and accountability cannot be
reached. At the regular meeting of the American Township
held on April 30, 2007, Trustees passed a Resolution by a 3-0
vote to "take all necessary steps to terminate the Fire Protection
and Emergency Medical Services of American Township".
The last contract between American Township and The Elida Fire
Company called for a 60 day notice to be given by either party
upon termination of contract. Therefore, the Township will
begin running its own fire/EMS department in July.
