Scott Holmes has been employed by American Township for 12 years. Scott is the Road Superintendent and Cemetery Sexton. His duties and responsibilities to the Trustees are both administrative and supervisory in nature. The employees receive daily work orders from the Road Superintendent. such as mowing roadsides and cemeteries, traffic sign repair, storm water drainage improvements, road repairs, vehicle maintenance, snow and ice removal, assisting at funerals and burials, tree trimming and/or removal.
Scott's duties include furnishing the Trustees with his recommendations for the annual road improvement program; which in recent years has reached $200,000. The Trustees also rely heavily on his advice when considering the purchase of trucks, tractors, back hoes, mowers and other large equipment and machinery. Scott and his advice and recommendations to the Trustees are results of his and other employees concurrence. The care of the cemeteries is also under his direct supervision and control. He is responsible the sale of cemetery lots, record keeping of ownership of lots, coordinating the funeral services with the funeral directors at the cemeteries, the construction of footers and placement of grave site memorial stones. A lawn care program consisting of applications of herbicides, insecticides and fertilizers is presented annually to the Trustees by Scott for approval. Permits, other than zoning permits, are issued by Scott for such things as the construction of residential driveways, cutting roads for utility line extensions and excavation in township road right-of-ways. |
