Paul Basinger: Paul Basinger was elected in November 2003 and took office on November 25, 2003. Paul was re-elected in November of 2005 with his present term ending December 31, 2009 when he will seek re-election. Paul retired April 30, 2002 as a Lieutenant for the Allen County Sheriff's Office after serving for 25 years. He continues to serve as a special deputy with the Allen County Sheriffs Office. Paul was also an instructor for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Rhodes State College and an instructor for the Attorney General's Bailiff Training Academy. He recently retired from those positions in order to dedicate more time to his position as Township Trustee.

 

Paul is a member of the Allen County Clerks and Trustees Association, the Ohio Township Trustees Association, serves on many community and county boards and participates in the Allen County/ Lima Public Officials Dialogue meetings. Paul most recently became a graduate of the Ohio Township Associations Leadership Academy. This involved successful completion of multiple classes that included; Conducting effective meetings, communicating with the media, communications with citizens, building substantial communities, team building, conflict management, leadership skills effective decision making, inter-governmental relations and a general workshop for trustees. Paul is also a graduate of the Allen Lima Leadership class. Paul is active as an Ohio High School Wrestling Official and serves as the secretary/treasurer and a committee member for the OHSAA State Appeals and Review Board. He also serves on the Board of Governors for the Ohio Wrestling Officials Association. His years of service at the Allen County Sheriff's Office coupled with the invaluable contacts made in local governments, commitment to serve while attending seminars, conferences, workshops, and working with our citizens and support agencies throughout Allen County can only continue to improve the quality of life in American Township.

 

Paul and his wife Laura have six children Allison and Brooke are married, Lindsay is a 2007 graduate from Ohio University (4.- G.P.A.), Landon is a 2006 graduate of Elida High School and enrolled at World Harvest majoring in ministry, Justin graduated in 2007 from Elida High School (3.9 G.P.A.) and is attending Ohio State to major in accounting, and Callie is currently a junior at Elida High School.

Larry Vandemark: Larry Vandemark was elected as American Township Trustee in November 2007 and took office in January 1, 2008. Larry has 8 years of prior experience serving in this capacity from 1988 to 1996. During that time he worked diligently in preparing the township for the 21st Century and will continue to work for the township with the same dedication.

 

Larry has held various offices throughout our community such as past-president of the Allen County Trustees Assoc., past president & vice-president of the West Central Assoc. of Realtors., board member of Allen Regional Planning Commission, board member of Midwest Electric

Co-op, member of Rotary International and other organizations. All of these leadership roles have helped Larry develop the leadership skills needed to keep American township on a path of continued growth.

 

Larry is a lifetime resident of the township where he and his wife Sharon have raised their family of three boys -- Dr. Shawn Vandemark, Jared Vandemark (Industrial Engineer), and Dr. Jeffery Vandemark. Larry and Sharon have been very active in their community serving as church treasurers, council president, and holding various church and civic offices.

 

Larry’s broad range of experience includes being an active area farmer as well as having 18 years of successful real estate sales. From being a broker/owner of a local real estate company to serving his community through various organizational and governmental positions -- all this has given Larry the understanding, growth, and development which are vital in keeping American Township a great place to live and raise a family.

Lynn Mohler: Lynn Mohler was elected trustee in November 2009 and took office January 1, 2010,
